Floral Still Life Lisa Towers

This two day workshop will concentrate on painting the glory of the floral still life.   The workshop will begin with a two hour demonstration by Lisa Towers.  Students will then work in pairs or groups to set up still lives from which to paint and will be encouraged to complete at least two paintings in two days.  Flowers and fruits will be provided, though we will request that students bring garden roses if available since home grown roses are preferable to store bought.  The workshop will wrap up in the last hour of the second day with a wine and cheese critique.  All skill levels are welcome in this workshop as each student will receive individualized attention.  A supply list will be provided.

Students will have the option of taking one or two days of the workshop, although the two-day experience is recommended as it comes full circle from demonstration to critique.

The Acrylic Experience

Kay Brathol-Hostvet

In this new workshop, we will focus on learning some unique techniques and refining existing skills in the application of acrylic paint. You will work in the style of your choice—representational or abstract.  Multiple instructor demonstrations and small exercises on the first morning should give you ideas for your own work over the next day and a half. Acrylic is a wonderful painting medium for expression and  experimentation because it dries quickly allowing a buildup of multiple layers, or drastic changes. This workshop is for experienced beginners to advanced artists. Previous acrylic painting experience is required.

Snappy Scrappy   Jackie Hefty

Feeling a little sassy?  Join us for a 'breaking the rules' fabric collage playful day. We will be raiding the fabric stash, using a variety of quilting and upholstery remnants to create what we affectionately call "Snappy Scrappy".  Layers, textures, lace, ribbon, and jewelry, buttons, or beads combine to become your individualized Snappy Scrappy.  Hand or machine stitch your choice pieces into a wall hanging, book cover or fabric frame for a photo.   We will have a few 'simple' sewing machines available, yarns and thread, an assortment of pre-fringed upholstery fabrics (thanks Mom!) and background canvas for you, along with buttons, beads and other trinkets.  You are encouraged to bring any materials you wish to use and/or share. (Clean out your stash, well, within reason...)  It isn't necessary to have a quilting or fiber arts background, having a sense of color combinations and design will be helpful. A playful attitude is greatly desired.

Fri. Aug 29 1 - 5 or Sat Aug 30 1 - 5  $ 60/$15 materials
