Experimental Acrylic Weekend
Kay Brathol-Hostvet
This workshop is a shorter variation of the popular Experimental Acrylics. We will focus
on the application of acrylic paint in creating expressive, non-representational works based on technical experimentation
and design and color exercises. Acrylic is a wonderful painting medium for experimentation because it dries quickly allowing
a buildup of multiple layers, or drastic changes. This workshop is suitable for all skill levels. Experimental
Acrylic is a repeatable workshop, for those that have enjoyed taking it in the past and is suitable for all skill
levels. Sat/Sun, August 10-11, Sat-9-4, Sun-10-4
$195/$20 materials

Book Structures: Variations on the Accordion
Jackie Hefty
Versatile and adaptable, concertina or accordion style book structures lend
themselves to so much more. We will 'play' with and investigate variations on a theme using these structures.
A style or structure that can be woven together, layered as a tunnel book, bound with a coptic stitch or played out like the
instrument it is often called by. Linear progression of a story line or imagery is favored by adults and children alike, yet
it can be appreciated for the simple alluring structural design alone. Paper choices/options will be discussed. Participants
will need to purchase or use from your personal stash as appropriate. No book making experience needed, no specialized tools
required to continue your 'play' at home. If you already have any of the items in the Basic Tool Kit, please bring.

Life Lines Pamela Paulsrud
In this class we will investigate and incorporate the underpinnings of the hidden laws of nature-sacred geometry-exploring
these forms and synthesizing the linear with the artistic aspect of pattern and beauty.
Step by step we'll design a template from which to springboard to create a portfolio of our own unique expression.
A compass, straight edge and a variety of tools for writing and calculating forms will be paired with graphite, ink and watercolor. Music, meditation, sound and silence will accompany us as we wind our way
through a series of exercises exploring the tempo and voice of our unique line-story, script, gesture and mark-developing
flow-letting go of the familiar long enough to greet the unexpected.
