IN THE WORKS...

Whispering Woodlands is working to finalize 2015 workshops/programs.

In addition to our Local Instructors, the backbone of our business, we also include opportunities to study with some Regional/National Instructors. This year we are looking to include: Pam Paulsrud  (set - Nov 2015), Jacqueline Sullivan ( set - June 2015), Miriam Hall, Debora Stewart, and more.  Let us know if there is someone else we should be asking ...

Dates/times for the following have not yet been determined.

Box Making: Clam Shell Box / Drop Spine Box  Jackie Hefty

Asked for by members of several bookmaking workshops, here it is, a workshop to make a drop spine box. Based on using a conventional size of 8 1/2 x 11", we will create a housing for papers, books and treasures. Adjustments for various sizes will be discussed for individualized future projects. A good metal ruler, a sharp utility knife, a cutting matt and a clear head will be most important.  Participants will have the opportunity to customize the covers with commercially available materials or personalized, hand decorated options.

Book Structures: Variations on the Accordion   Jackie Hefty

Versatile and adaptable, concertina or accordion style book structures lend themselves to so much more.  We will 'play' with and investigate variations on a theme using these structures.  A style or structure that can be woven together, layered as a tunnel book, bound with a coptic stitch or played out like the instrument it is often called by. Linear progression of a story line or imagery is favored by adults and children alike, yet it can be appreciated for the simple alluring structural design alone.  Paper choices/options will be discussed. Participants will need to purchase or use from your personal stash as appropriate. No book making experience needed, no specialized tools required to continue your 'play' at home. If you already have any of the items in the Basic Tool Kit, please bring.
