Printmaking Collagraphs: Intro to Mixed Media Printmaking Jackie
Hefty Collagraphs incorporate aspects of relief and
intaglio printmaking, additive and subtractive methods of working, all in an intriguing mixed media approach to plate-making.
Think texture printing; using everyday objects (cardboard, lace, washers, yarn) transformed into textural elements enhancing
your unique prints. Take an individualized approach in what can be either objective or non-objective subject matter. Wed
May 6, 13, 20 1 - 4:30 $165/$15 materials
Just a little note:
Many of the classes I personally offer are meant to
provide a progression in inter-related book arts opportunities. It is not necessary to take them in any specific order, but
understand they are complimentary in nature. By taking a decorative paper workshop, you may utilize your work in a book
structure as text pages, end sheets or as a cover. Likewise, by taking papermaking you may use the results in a book or as
a substrate for a print, drawing, painting, or with letterpress. Think of them as part of, or a
means to an end, not the end in themselves. (not that many can not stand alone and be appreciated as completed work)
It is also for this reason I repeat some foundational workshops more often. Understanding the method to my madness may be
helpful when making workshop choices. Jackie

Acrylic Color Mixing |
Learn to Mix Colors in Acrylic
Kay Brathol-Hostvet
Learning
to mix colors is one of the most daunting and frustrating experiences that painters face. How many times have you been unable
to make a particular color or have you wasted lots of paint in the process? Knowing a few basics about paint composition,
color temperature and color theory helps immensely. This is strictly a hands-on workshop for those who have some previous
painting experience. What you learn working with acrylic transfers to other painting mediums, but acrylic is required for
this workshop. Sat, May 16, 1 - 5 $65

Studio Landscape in Acrylic |
Studio Landscape Painting in Acrylic Kay Brathol-Hostvet In this fast-paced, one-day workshop you will focus on painting the landscape from
your own photographs “a la prima” style—quickly, loosely, and expressively—without the use of multiple
glazes or extensive blending. The direct approach is both visual and intuitive and encourages great personal expression. Working
in acrylic has the benefits of little odor, water clean-up, and quick drying which allows for almost immediate changes. This
workshop is for all skill levels, but previous painting experience in any medium is very helpful. Sun, May 17, 10 - 5 $100/$5 materials

Still (in) Life
Brenna Hopkins Your home, collections, and family heirlooms can inspire your creativity, tell your story and preserve family history.
Learn to use beautiful indoor daylight to create still-life images with your digital camera. If you have never taken
your camera off "AUTO," still-life photography is the perfect way to understand how to improve the pictures you
are taking. If you are an experienced photographer, you'll explore ways to see your day to day world as a resource for
your creativity. We will learn the best lighting locations in any indoor setting, and simple approaches to making
the most of the light (and the camera) you have. A journal or notebook is recommended to record camera settings and written impressions
of your experiences. Supplies: Requires a digital camera or phone with enough free
memory to take 100 images. Bring your card reader or the cable you use to download pictures from your camera or phone
so you can see your images. A laptop is recommended for viewing your images - I will bring mine, but please bring yours if
you have one. If you have a tripod, bring it! Sat May 23, 1 - 5

Snappy Scrappy with photo |
Snappy Scrappy Jackie Hefty Feeling a little sassy? Join us for a 'breaking the rules' fabric
collage playful day. We will be raiding the fabric stash, using a variety of quilting and upholstery remnants to create what
we affectionately call "Snappy Scrappy". Layers, textures, lace, ribbon, and jewelry, buttons, or beads combine
to become your individualized Snappy Scrappy. Hand or machine stitch your choice pieces into a wall hanging,
book cover or fabric frame for a photo. We will have a few 'simple' sewing machines available, yarns and thread,
an assortment of pre-fringed upholstery fabrics (thanks Mom!) and background canvas for you, along with buttons, beads and
other trinkets. You are encouraged to bring any materials you wish to use and/or share. (Clean out your stash, well
within reason...) It isn't necessary to have a quilting or fiber arts background, having a sense of color combinations
and design will be helpful. A playful attitude is greatly desired. Sat May 30, 1 - 5 $ 55/$15 materials
